When you decide to get rid of a streaming service, it makes a big difference. You must be able to delete your account properly if you change your mind and decide to cut expenses, take a break from the internet, or pursue new forms of entertainment.
Merely stopping your subscription is not enough. It refers to making sure that your information is no longer present. Let’s discuss each stage of the process, step by step, for 2025.
1. Understanding the Difference: Cancel vs. Delete
It is useful to know that cancelling your Netflix membership is different from deleting your account.
1.1 Canceling your membership: This stops your billing. You will be able to enjoy Netflix until your billing period concludes. Even after you cancel, Netflix saves your profile, viewing history, and recommendations for the next ten months.
It allows you to come back during that period if you decide to reconsider your decision.
1.2 Deleting your account: It is a more lasting action. It involves Netflix deleting your account information and the data connected with it.
Once you delete your account, there is no way to recover your viewing history, profiles, recommendations, or game saves. If you need to use Netflix on a new device or device type, you will have to set up a new account.
If you end your Netflix membership, the account will be automatically deleted after 10 months. Should you wish for your data to be erased earlier, you can ask for it.
2. A Clear Guide on How to Cancel Your Netflix Account
Typically, deleting your account has two key steps: You should first cancel your membership if you have it and then submit a request to have your account deleted.
Method 1: You should use the Netflix website to delete your account (this is recommended for most users).
This approach is the easiest and most common way to handle your account.
Go to the homepage of Netflix.com and click Sign In. Open Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, and then go to the official Netflix website. Enter your email address and password for the account you want to cancel.
Access Your Account Settings: After logging in, hover your mouse over the profile icon at the top-right corner of the page. A dropdown menu will appear. Tap on “Account” from the list.
3. Cancel Your Membership (If Active)
To access the Membership & Billing section, go to your Account page.
You should find a button labeled “Cancel Membership.” Click on it.
Next, Netflix will walk you through several screens. Customer care could give you several choices or request your reason for cancellation.
Click “Finish Cancellation” to confirm. Your subscription is valid through the end of your current billing period, and you won’t incur any further charges.
Important Note: If you added a Netflix subscription outside of our platform, you must contact the third party to cancel it. Visit the “Membership & Billing” part of your account page to view the billing information. It should show a link or tell you how to do this.
When your membership is canceled or no longer active, or once you have canceled it, you may request that we delete your account.
After visiting your Account page, you may notice a “Delete Account” section within Settings or Security. If available, click this.
You might be required to finish a security procedure by entering a code that was emailed to you.
Mark the checkbox and press “Permanently Delete” to confirm your deletion.

Using Netflix’s official mobile app (Android and iOS).
You can delete your Netflix account straight from their mobile app, which is very convenient.
Update Your Netflix App: Keep your Netflix app up-to-date on your Android phone, tablet, iPhone, or iPad.
Tap on the app and click the “My Netflix” option. Launch the Netflix app. Click on the icon for your profile in the top-right corner. Go to “My Netflix” in the lower right corner, and after that, tap “Menu” or “More” located in the upper right part of the screen.
Go to “Account”: Tap “Account” in the menu that appears. Usually, this will bring up a browser window in the app or lead you directly to your account.
Find “Delete Account”: Scroll to the bottom of the Account settings page. Locate the “Delete Account” button in your Settings area.
Confirm Deletion: First, you must confirm who you are and then mark “Permanently Delete” on the screen to completely remove your account.
Method 3: Contacting Netflix Support for Deletion
If you face any problems or want help directly, reach out to Netflix support.
Cancel Your Membership First, you should cancel your Netflix plan before contacting support for help deleting your account.
Email the Netflix Privacy Team: To address the problem, send a message to privacy@netflix.com from the same email address used for your Netflix account.
Title your message “Request for account deletion.” Ensure you ask for the account to be deleted once and for all.
Crucial: If you try using a different email address, it is likely the request will not go through because of security reasons.
4. What Happens After Account Deletion?
4.1 No Access: Once you have permanently deleted your account, you will not be able to use the same login again. If you want to use Netflix in the future, you will have to sign up for a different account.
4.2 Data Removal: No one will be able to see your previous Netflix activity or personal settings after removing them.
4.3 Billing Stops: Your membership will end at the conclusion of your current billing period, and no further charges will take place. The account will be removed from the system for good after confirmation.
If you regret requesting deletion during the same billing period, you can go to your account page to cancel the removal. However, once you delete your account, it will be gone for good and you cannot recover it.
4.5 Data Retention for Lawful Reasons: Netflix explains that they sometimes keep information (email addresses, device identifiers, and encrypted payment information) to follow the law, protect themselves from fraud, and enforce their rules.
